Nurse Practitioner Student Clinical Program
Thank you for your interest in Jefferson Center as a clinical site for Nurse Practitioner.
Thank you for your interest in Jefferson Center clinical preceptorships.
Jefferson Center does not offer therapy/counseling preceptorships.
We are no longer taking Nurse Practitioner applications for the fall semester. Please check back again!
Our Clients:
- Jefferson Center provides a wide spectrum of community based mental health services for children, adolescents, and adults.
- Our clients are primarily those with Medicaid, but we also work with those with Medicare, commercial insurance, self-pay, and uninsured across Jefferson, Gilpin, and Clear Creek counties.
- Jefferson Center nurse practitioners work mainly with our adult population.
Our Nurse Practitioners:
-
- Our prescriber team includes both psychaitrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners and is comprised of 12-14 NPs, on average. We currently have 6 psychiatric NPs who are qualified and willing to precept NP students.
- Our NPs work 8- or 10-hour days, typically from 8 am to 6 pm, Monday through Fridays.
- The majority of NPs work with our adult outpatient population. We have some NPs who specialize in working with children/adolescents, collaborative care models, and suboxone/substance use disorders.
-
- Typical day/stats for our NPs:
-
-
- One hour of scheduled administrative/paperwork time per day
- One 60-minute medication evaluation per day
- Ten to 17 30-minute follow-up visits per day
- One hour of prescriber team meeting or NP supervision meeting once per week
- Average caseload size of 300-500 clients
- All NPs work remotely on Fridays
- Some NPs work on-site daily and some have a hybrid schedule that includes both on-site and remote work days each week
-
Potential NP Students:
- We accept TWO psychiatric nurse practitioner students PER semester (spring, summer, and fall).
-
- Available clinical placement opportunities are dependent on how many nurse practitioners are willing to precept a student that particular semester.
- It is possible that there may be some semesters during which no clinical placement opportunities may be offered.
- We work closely with the University of Colorado and prioritize CU students for our clinical placement opportunities.
- Students who are accepted for a clinical placement are required to submit to a background check, onboard with our human resources department, and attend and complete Jefferson Center new employee orientation prior to their clinical start date.
- Clinical hours:
-
- Our students typically require 135-180 clinical hours per semester (over the course of 10-18 weeks) but the number of clinical hours you are able to complete at Jefferson Center will depend on preceptor availability.
- It is highly likely that accepted NP students will be working primarily with an adult client population.
